- Just wanted to confirm that copying the file libmysql.dll from C:\PHP to C:\Windows\System32 resolved my issue of not loading php_mysql.dll.

It should work from there. php_sqlsrv.dll is the one which is fully supported by Microsoft SQL Server team and I would say if you are doing any new development you should use this DLL. Since I use the PHP 5.1.14, there is no need to use the mysqli command but the mysql only. Instead, take a look at Microsoft SQLServer Driver for PHP.

- You may have copied over this file into your Windows/System32 (or WINNT/System32 for me) to get mysql to work in This is an old DLL used by PHP to talk to MS SQL. https://forums.iis.net/t/1161224.aspx?Impossible+to+activate+extension+php_mssql+dll When I upgraded from 5.2.10 to 5.3.0, I had to use the SQLSRV driver instead.

Unfortunately, the SQLSRV API is slightly different so I had to change some code, but it seems to work fine.
error_reporting = -1 error_log = C:/Error.log -1 means everything (even errors not yet known).
Many extensions are built into the Windows version of PHP. But I'd really REALLY recommend you don't use it. In an effort to make sure there wasn't a conflict between these two extensions, I disabled the pdo one and now am just getting the error for the mssql.dll extension. I hadn't done it in a Windows environment before, but in a *nix environment I've had to install MySQL first and get that running, then install PHP with the MySQL option

Other Gotchas If your troubleshooting PHP under windows, and making modifications to the php.ini file and getting nowhere, make sure that the php.ini that you're modifying is actually getting loaded. Make sure it's pointed to the file you're modifying. I'll see the error message that it can't find the module C:\php\ext\php_mysql.dll and then go to that directory and find myself looking at that exact file. And if yes - how?
