It's formatted FAT, because I use Mac at home and Linux at work and FAT is the only format that can be written and read in both Linux and Mac. Avoid daisy-chaining. But no worries since we have Class 100 Clean Rooms to salvage inaccessible data from burned, broken and failed hard disk drives. No disk identifier! not much to my delight all responses from apple and the hard drive manufactureres are very typically ;conflicting, each blames the other, and there is yet to be a solution.
